On the morning of June 30, the second meeting of the first council of SDU School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (hereinafter referred to as the School) was held in Qingdao Campus. Fan Liming, President of SDU, Han Shenghao, Vice President of SDU and President of Qingdao Campus, Chu Daping, Chairman of the Advanced Photonics and Electronic Technology Center (CAPE) of the University of Cambridge and Honorary Dean of the School, Tony Raven, CEO of Cambridge Enterprise Center of the University of Cambridge, David Gill, CEO of St. John's Innovation Center of the University of Cambridge, and Liu Dachuan, deputy head of Qingdao Shibei District attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed and approved the Resolution (Draft) on Personnel Addition and Vice-chairman Adjustment of the First Council of SDU School of Innovation Intermediary, SDU School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base Work Report, SDU School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base Financial Report. The meeting heard the work report and outlook of the University of Cambridge, Qingdao Shibei District Government and the School. Shirley Jamieson reviewed the exchange visits from October 2018 to now and pointed out the importance of the ongoing innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Liu Dachuan said that Shibei District has improved the construction of software and hardware facilities of the School’s Demonstration Base (hereinafter referred to as the Base), organized the first phase of evaluation, acceptance and fund disbursement, optimized the daily teaching and office environment of the Base; promoted the settlement of investment cooperation and innovation and entrepreneurship projects; strengthened the introduction of high-quality resources from the University of Cambridge and accelerated the progress of the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Next, professional operation management will be strengthened; work research will be further strengthened to improve precise services; innovative industry cooperation initiatives will be promoted. He hopes to organize an investment promotion meeting between Chinese and British companies every year to accelerate the implementation of the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem project. Chen Zhijun reported on the progress of the School's overall work from the construction of the School, the construction of the innovation ecosystem of the Qingdao campus, the academic area and faculty, and the management team. He summarized the work of the Base in 2019 and reported the financial situation of the Base in 2019. He proposed that the operation level of the Base will be further promoted, resources inside and outside the School will be actively integrated, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem will be improved, and special training on innovation and entrepreneurship for enterprises in the region will be carried out. Tony Raven said that the visit in November 2018 was a process of learning about SDU and now we are in a transition from theory to practice. He was also delighted with the changes that have taken place in SDU and Shibei District during this period.
In the concluding speech, Fan Liming spoke highly of the work of the School and said that the previous work laid a good foundation for the future of the School. She pointed out that the School is a new mechanism for China-foreign cooperation and school-site cooperation. It is hoped that the college will continue to closely integrate discipline construction and social service, and constantly improve discipline construction in the course of practice. She suggested that the School should put more energy in building a professional faculty team and creating a dual-creation ecosystem, and strive to make breakthroughs in base construction. She encouraged participants to emancipate their minds, reduce shackles, actively explore and strengthen cooperation among the three parties, and make outstanding contributions to the construction of the Qingdao Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Project and the Qingdao Campus Innovation Ecosystem Project.
Relevant officials and staff of Cambridge Enterprise Center of the University of Cambridge, Qingdao Shibei District Investment Promotion Bureau, SDU Qingdao Campus Party Working Committee Office, International Affairs Office and other units attended the meeting.
