On November 3,2025,School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship,Shandong University successfully hosted an academic lecture titled New Ventures’Preference for Innovative Opportunities and Its Impact on the Degree of Internationalization: The Role of Entrepreneurial Fear of Failurein the Multifunctional Room,Block B of South Huiwen Building. The lecture featured Associate Professor Wang Yue from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, as the keynote speaker.

Wang systematically presented cutting-edge research on how entrepreneurial fear of failure influences new ventures' opportunity preferences and internationalization levels. He highlighted that this complex emotion profoundly shapes firms' choices between innovative and imitative opportunities, thereby determining their internationalization pathways and extent.

By constructing a theoretical model and conducting empirical tests using extensive data covering multinational entrepreneurs, the research revealed the significant moderating role of home country economic freedom and the crucial mediating effect of innovation intensity in the relationship between entrepreneurial fear of failure and the internationalization process of start-ups. These findings offer new theoretical perspectives for understanding how start-ups balance innovation risks and internationalization strategies.

The lecture proved highly stimulating, sparking keen interest and lively discussion among faculty and students in attendance. It deepened academic understanding of the complex mechanisms linking entrepreneurial emotions, innovation choices, and international expansion, offering valuable international perspectives and theoretical insights for research and teaching in related fields. The School remains committed to building high-level academic exchange platforms to advance international frontiers in innovation transformation theory and practice.
